Hyun Bin is currently serving in the Northwestern Province Defense Headquarters in Hwasung as a Marine PR officer, where he was posted after a week-long leave. When President Lee Myung Bak visited the Northwestern Province Defense Headquarters, Hyun Bin was caught on camera at the scene.

In October, enews attempted to confirm a tip-off with the Marines, the Ministry of Defense and Hyun Bin’s agency that Hyun Bin would be leaving Baeknyeong Island to serve not as a combat infantryman, but as a PR officer. All answered, “We don’t know,” “no comment” or “even if he does serve as a PR unit, we will not announce it to the public nor will we let it be known.”
But when President Lee visited the Marines for the first anniversary of the Yeonpyeong Island attacks, the military openly exposed Hyun Bin to the camera. Regardless of Hyun Bin’s wish to serve as a combat infantryman, Hyun Bin is continuously being exposed to the press as a PR officer.
Netizens are commenting, “Leave Hyun Bin alone,” “I heard the Marines are going to release a photo spread with Hyun Bin in it; isn’t it too much?” and “Hyun Bin won’t be feeling comfortable even in the military.”
Hyun Bin enlisted in March, and appeared at the 3rd Seoul Recovery Commemorative Marine Marathon in September. He also emceed the 22nd Marine band concert, and even flew to Indonesia to ‘boost the image of the military’.
